Any advice on how to best store a post hole digger? I'm looking for a way to store it that allows for easy attaching. Attaching other implements is easy compared to this one. Should I be concerned about protecting it from weather? Thanks in advance for your help. JonB

Jon, those things are a pain to attach, aren't they. I have a neighbor who ties his (with a stout rope) to an overhead beam when he disconnects it. A cousin just bought a new one and the salesman told him to just drill it into the ground and leave it standing in the hole. I guess that works, but I just don't want to leave any of my equipment sitting out in the weather. ....

I have a JD 1050 w/loader for which I had pallet forks made that slip over front edge of the bucket(in front of the lift arms). I modified a pallet with "custom" blocks that I can lower my boom onto and the auger will fold up under(by bending at the ujoint next to the 90 degree gearbox). This keeps all of it out of the dirt. The whole thing goes onto a shelf about 5 feet up that I built along one end in the bldg where I keep equipment. I keep the post hole auger, 2 3 pt sprayers, and a Vicon spreader in the shelf. Sure saves floor space! ....

I keep mine suspended from the trusses at the back of my shed. I use the adjustable nylon straps with hooks on the ends that you can buy at CT, K-Mart, wal-mart etc. Two straps on the transfer case suspend the auger from two sides while I disconnect everything. Once I have it off the tractor I use another strap to move the boom up and out of the way. This method minimizes the amount of space needed for storage, keeps it inside and makes for a simple hook up when I want to use it. ....

Jon, go by a dealer that has Bush Hog brand diggers. They have a parking stand. I am going to make me one. They are real simple to make and you don't even have to weld they. ....

I loaned mine to a neighbor for a few of years and noticed that he kept it strapped to a tree with a couple of nylon tie down straps. Convenient and out
of the weather - more or less. ....

As a landscaper I had the same problem. I got a scrap of steel pipe ~ 24" long, just slightly larger than the auger bit (12" in this case) and welded it to a scrap of heavy steel plate, then blew a couple holes with the torch to let rain water out. Now even the female summer students can hookup or drop it. The whole thing stands vertically in the pipe the mount, this allows hookup or dropping with ease even on uneven ground, unlike the 'parking stands' made by the manufacturers. Besides it cost all of probably $5 (for coffees) to make.... ....
